Want to buy fresh fish from Jacob Taylor Beach for your breakfast…

Then why not visit the fishermen in Duncans Bay for your fresh fish, just caught and selling on the beach. This is Jacob Taylor Beach, often called the Fisherman’s Beach or the Public Beach.

People from the village of Duncan visit these guys, buying all kinds of sea creatures, fresh from the sea including Lobsters, Red Snapper and Lion fish.

The boats are a lot bigger than you first imagine and working as a team the fishermen take out these boats across the reef which you can see if you look across the ocean from Duncans Bay, and head out a few miles to catch their fish.

When they come back from fishing the men have to hauled the boats onto the beach and make them secure. Once the boats are secured the fishermen starts to sell the catch they made for the day. To the side you will also find men waiting to gut and scale the fish for you, ready to be cooked or stored until you are ready to consume your meal.

Gun Kid, I loved that guy…

One of my good friend who lived on the beach was great at cleaning fish ‘Gun Kid’. A great character whom I must give homage. We had a lot of stories to tell each other and we all miss the eccentric personality of ‘Gun Kid’, Jah bless him.

This guy would walk through my gate with several fish in his hand, find some fire wood and light a ‘fire’.

My job was to supply the food and drink. Then we would sit outside and have a great Jamaican meal, each of us telling stories from our past. He died on the beach of Duncans Bay due to an accident and for me he will be missed but not forgotten.
